Whiskey and Quilts
Monday, November 2nd, 2009I am laying in bed watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix trying to figure out when I will grow up. I am thinking that might not happen anytime soon if I am still watching Harry Potter movies.
Today was a super busy day at work and thanks to watching Mad Men I thought man, I wish I worked back in the 60′s when I could pull out a bottle of whiskey from the file cabinet and pour a glass. Somehow that has always been a romantic thing in movies and television… The man getting off work, coming home pouring a glass of whiskey and sitting back and relaxing, or even having that drink at work during a meeting. So today for about five minutes I thought… That’s it! I will become a connoisseur of fine whiskey and then I will be a grown up. Well, I don’t drink hardly ever, and if I do I like a glass of wine… Cannot stand the taste of liquor. But I figured I could acquire that taste, since it is cool in movies. Then I imagined ten years from now, having acquired that taste for a fine expensive whiskey, my husband taking my kids and leaving because all mommy does is drink whiskey and try to make quilts. And I would look back and remember that day in early November of 2009 when I decided I wanted to acquire a taste for a drink that makes me want to vomit at the smell of it, and wish I could go back and tell that innocent 29 year old Lauren to just stick to you one glass of wine every few months at a dinner party. So just like that I decided not to grow up and be cool like the people in movies. It was a nice thought until my husband left me.
Yes, all that happened in about five minutes. It was a short lived fantasy, as most of my fantasies are, but I think I’ll stick to my latest addiction of sewing. I realize that this addiction will most likely keep me single for much longer than I would hope, but at least it won’t make my future husband and unborn children walk out on me.
My latest goal is learn how to make children’s clothing. I can’t wait to figure out the details. And luckily I have an adorable little niece that I can make practice clothes for!!
